Report

Report:Tunbridge Wells’ team squash season started last night with the 1st team battling out an exciting home match against Bromley CC. With Kent’s over35 squad being made up solely from both teams there was a lot of bragging rights to fight for.
First on court A after a late start (train Issues!) was TWells’ Luke aka “The Youngster” against Bromley’s Kent O35 player James MCMecken. With The Youngster taking a close 1st game 13/11 (1-0) James fought back in the second game 8/11 (1-1). After some words of advice from the team The Youngster took a commanding lead in the 3rd to then win 11-3 (2-1) then continued in the 4th to take the game 11/6 (3-1)
Meanwhile the No1’s had started on court B, with Alex Cope aka “The Inventor” facing a tough challenge in County player Ted Jeal. The Inventor improved as the match went on and at (0-2) he narrowly lost the 3rd 11/13 (0-3).
Next on court A was Jolyon Head aka “Mr Racketball” against fellow Kent O35 player Lewis Ryall. This in some ways was the closest match of the night and definitely the longest, the first game went to set (must win by 2 points) with Mr Racketball taking it 12/10 (1-0). The next game followed a similar pattern 13/11 (2-0) as did the 3rd with the exception of Mr Racketball finishing of the match with a shot that he did not even need to use the strings for ;) 13/11 (3-0)
Last on court B steeping up from the 2nd team was Neil Bradshaw “Mr Captain” against Billy Jones. This was a high tempo match the billy seemed to have a lot more luck in than our Mr Captain. Mr Captain lost a close fought first game 8/11 (0-1) and I’m not sure if it was the luck or a loss of confidence but billy then took the next two as well 4/11 , 6/11 (0-3)
With the match a 2-2 it was time for Jonny Powell aka “Club Champ” to bring home the victory for TWells. Unfortunately a long drive back from the outskirts of Birmingham or the late time of the night was too much for our Club Champ. Playing Kent O35 player Sam Stabler Club Champ made far too many errors as he used to in days of old and with Sam making a good few less, Club Champ lost 0-3 (6/11, 5/11, 9/11) thus given victory to the visiting Bromley team.
